Small Business Saturday: the Day Built for You

October 29, 2026 · 5 min read

There is one Saturday a year when the entire country is told, in ads and on the news, to go buy from small local businesses. It was created in 2010 by American Express, and it falls right after Black Friday.

Almost no small business works it. Most owners spend November preparing for Friday, and let that Saturday go by like any other day.

That is a missed week — and it is the easiest week of the year to win, because nobody has to explain the message to your customer. It is already in their head.

The short answer

Why this day is different from every other sale

On Black Friday you compete on price against retailers who buy in volumes you will never match. You lose that fight by entering it.

Small Business Saturday is the opposite. The reason to buy is not the discount — it is you. A person who goes out that day is not hunting for the cheapest price. They are choosing to spend their money somewhere with a name and a face behind it.

That is your entire advantage, and it is the one thing no big box can copy.

What to do in the two weeks before

1 · Make the day concrete. Pick one simple thing you can offer that is easy to say in one sentence. A small gift with every order. Free pickup. A bundle only available that day. Not a complicated promotion — the point is that people can repeat it to a friend.

2 · Fix your link. The people who hear about you that day will look for you on a phone, standing up, in a rush. If what they find takes four steps, they leave. One link, products and prices visible, order button that goes straight to your WhatsApp.

3 · Write the message once. You will send the same thing to many people. Write it down, save it, and stop rebuilding it every time.

4 · Tell people it is coming. The week before, announce that you are taking part. This is the step almost everyone skips — and it is the one that makes the day work.

Why a link matters more than a post

A post gets seen and forgotten. A link gets used.

And there is a detail that decides everything: 79% of people scan a page rather than read it (Nielsen). That means your price, your photo, and your button have to be understandable at a glance. Not in the third paragraph of a long caption.

When the order goes through your link, it arrives in your WhatsApp already written — items, quantities, total, delivery details. You are not retyping it while four people wait. That is the difference between a busy Saturday and a good one.

And if you sell to Hispanic customers too

The message of that Saturday works in both languages, and most small businesses only speak one. If your catalog can speak both, the same link serves your English-speaking customer and your Spanish-speaking one — no duplicate pages, no duplicate work.

One more thing that matters when the week gets loud: this is not a day to buy new software. It is a day to sell. That is why the second byNítida line, modullAPP, is built as modules you switch on when you need them — nothing to install, nothing to contract — instead of a system you rent all year for something you use twice.

The day after

Do not let the momentum die on Sunday. The people who bought from you that Saturday are the warmest list you will have all year:

"Do you know one person who would like this?" Not "tell your friends".
